Metal Gear Rising Revengeance: 10 Reasons It Won't Live Up To The Hype

3. Dumb AI

The AI in the Metal Gear Solid games was never exactly great, but it served a purpose, to provide the player with a series of rules and parameters that defined what they could and couldn't get away with; the patrol routes and more specifically, the enemy's field of vision. The enemies in MGS4 might not have grown as sophisticated as the rest of the game, but in Revengeance, those MGS4 baddies seem like Nobel laureates by comparison. In my playthrough of this demo, I snuck up to a guard, and he ignored me. Alright, I can deal with that. I then started to attack, and still, nothing. It's literally as though he's just an inanimate meat husk who exists only for me to cut him down, with the game not even giving the thinly-veiled pretence that he's supposed to fight back. Could he not at least crane his head round and reach for his weapon? It's just not very gratifying to kill the bad guys if they don't appear to be the slightest threat. It'll give you a giggle at first, but it quickly becomes tiresome. Again, this is something that should not be prevalent in a demo released mere weeks ahead of release. It makes me very nervous.
