Metal Gear Solid: 50 Weird Revelations You Weren't Expecting

11. Before Shadow Moses, Snake Was A Dog Musher

MGSf

Solid Snake is a man of many talents; before being called in to quell a terrorist uprising at the Shadow Moses nuclear disposal facility, Snake was a proficient musher in Alaska.

10. Weird AI Colonel (MGS2)

MGS2j As Raiden descends into the bowels of Arsenal Gear at the end of Metal Gear Solid 2, Colonel Campbell, whom he has been in touch with via Codec for the duration of his mission, starts acting a little funny. He calls Raiden and admonishes the player, "But really. You have been playing for a long time. Maybe you should take a break." His face becomes distorted and transitions between a human face and a skull, and he starts blabbering about nonsense, like when he calls Raiden to shout, "I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61!". Seriously. I took that quote directly from the game.

9. Psycho Mantis Battle (MGS1)

MGSg This is another classic example of Metal Gear weirdness. During the battle with Psycho Mantis, Mr. Mantis pulls out some very strange tricks; he demonstrates his psychic ability by "reading your mind", or more accurately, checking your memory card, and commenting on your game preferences ("You like Suikoden, don't you?"). He also commands the player to set the controller down so he can vibrate it, simulates a blank TV input screen, and can only be defeated when the player actually plugs the controller into slot 2 instead of slot 1 (rendering him unable to read your mind). This battle is memorable for many reasons, but when Mantis broke the 4th wall to demonstrate his psychic powers, gamers everywhere were blown away.
