Metal Gear Solid V: 10 Things The Phantom Pain Needs

3. Keep Nanomachines Out Of It

Metal Gear Solid 4 Nanomachines are the midichlorians of the Metal Gear Solid franchise; if Kojima is ever struggling to explain something convincingly, he'll just say it was because of nanomachines, and everyone will shut up (after laughing and then sighing). Perhaps the most infamous instance of this was in MGS4, when Vamp's super strength, speed and regenerative abilities were explained by him being injected with nanomachines, a little underwhelming given that pre-release, it had been suggested that there would be a more interesting explanation for Vamp's condition. Though MGSV will be moving further from Big Boss' era and closer to Solid Snake's, there's the hope that Kojima keeps nan0machines out of it this time; craft a story that operates on its own merits, and don't use the idiosyncratic plot device as a fix-all whenever the story gets backed into a corner.
