Metal Gear Solid V: What We Learned From The E3 Trailer

Here's The Part Where I Mention The Theories;

metal-gear-zero_post-600x300 Just like any other game in the series, this one appears to be full of secrets. For every question that gets kind of answered in every trailer, 5 new emerge, and it doesn't appear that we'll get many answers in the months to come. After all, the game won't come out until (at least) the last days of the year, and I don't think Kojima will drop important information on the game before it comes out (in fact I think the E3 trailer will be the game's last). But before we discuss the theories we should ask a serious question first: What is "Ground Zeroes"? Many questions have been raised about whether or not that portion of the game will be a separated game, a demo, or a downloadable chapter. Considering how many trailers we've seen centered on The Phantom Pain, pretty much ignoring Ground Zeroes, we should start considering how much any of those theories would change if Ground Zeroes its a separate game, or just a simple introduction. 2318258-metal_gear_solid_ground_zeroes_screenshots_1-600x300 If the game is just a short introduction to the gameplay mechanics, it's possible that this portion of the game will be maybe one or two hours long, which means that the 10 minute footage we saw back at the 25th Anniversary Party will be the actual beginning of the game. If that's the case, we might not learn much about what Chico was doing in Cuba nor how Paz was captured by XOF. But even if Ground Zeroes is a separate game, there's little chance for it to be as long as The Phantom Pain. After all, despite several declarations about whether or not it is a separate game or not, it's quite clear that this game will be a prologue to The Phantom Pain. And considering that they're probably referencing the final battle in Peace Walker when they mentioned that "Paz was alive," we might not see too many missions in the game, just one or two before we're thrown into Camp Omega. However, this will only apply if the attack on Mother Base happens at the same time Snake is rescuing Chico and Paz. Like I said earlier, in the second trailer we saw Snake coming back severely injured to Mother Base wearing the same uniform he was wearing in the Ground Zeroes trailer, only to see Mother Base being turned into ashes. However there's still a possibility that the game will continue after rescuing them (after all, in Peace Walker the suit you had on the cut scenes of the game will be the one you were wearing during the previous mission).
If that's the case and the attack on Mother Base is the last thing we'll see in the game, then it is possible that we might learn a few things about Skull Face. Which brings the question, is he a member of Cipher? Or someone else who has a grudge against Big Boss. Knowing how long Big Boss' history has been, it could easily be either one of them. Or maybe both, who knows? One of the theories that has called the most of my attention is one that says that we won't be playing that much as Big Boss, but actually as an entirely new character (explaining the change on voice actors, something that I'll discuss later on). This seems rather unlikely because 1) Kojima has done this ruse in the past, and 2) If we're going to experience Big Boss' fall into villainy, it would be much more interesting to witness that transformation through his eyes and not from the perspective of a stranger. But that's just my opinion. image_metal_gear_solid_v_the_phantom_pain-22272-2584_0001 Speaking of voice actors, one of the biggest things that comes to my mind is that during the demo for The Phantom Pain during the GDC, Ishmael was voiced by Kiefer Sutherland, the man who is supposed to voice Big Boss in the game. Again, this theory is centered around as who we will be playing as and what characters we might meet. Voice actors aside, we have absolutely no idea about who he is and how long his role will be in the game. Some speculate he'll represent the good that's left in Big Boss before he turns into a villain, which is why we haven't seen him in many scenes that might happen after the hospital sequence. Others think that he's either Chico or Gray Fox, both of those theories makes kind of sense, since he appears to react in a weird way when Big Boss asks "Who are you?" However, we should not rule out that he might be someone completely different.

There's also a very strong rumour about whether or not that creepy kid from the hospital sequence is Psycho Mantis or not. Well, as we all know Psycho Mantis' scars happened because when he was young he started a fire after reading his father's mind. The explosions, the weird things we've seen on previous trailers and of course the mask, everything points out that that kid is in fact a very young Psycho Mantis.

I respectfully disagree. While many things appear to point out that he's Psycho Mantis, for some reason I think that this kid is way much powerful than Psycho Mantis. He caused an extremely big explosion in the demo, tortured Snake with visions of what appears to be Volgin and at last, but not at least: He's possibly the one responsible for that giant whale that ATE A HELICOPTER. I also remember that in the first Metal Gear he launched fire at Snake, but it turned out it wasn't real and it was just an illusion.

Let's go back to that Phantom Pain demo again for a brief moment.

If that kid isn't Psycho Mantis, who else he could be? Here's a strange idea: maybe he isn't an old character returning, but maybe he's an entirely new character with similar powers. After all, he's one of "Those who don't exist." Speaking of which, who are they? Are they just some kind of illusion just to attack the character? Or are they some kind of unit that doesn't exist in an official matter? Whoever they are, they don't appear to be friendly. In fact, I'm quite sure that those guys are the main units from XOF. I guess that's all I can say when it comes to theories. There are several others involving characters like Quiet and Code Talker, but right now it's too early to speculate about them when in reality we don't know too much about them. Right now, from things that we can confirm in one way or the other, those are some theories on what could happen during the game.
