Mirror's Edge Catalyst: 10 Reasons It's A Huge Disappointment
5. Platforming Isn't Fun Or Intuitive
If there's one single thing the game absolutely needs to get right, it's the platforming, and while it is entertainingly fluid on occasion, for the most part it's actually more frustrating than fun.
Even with the Runner Vision tool activated, traversing the world often feels disjointed and lacks the kinetic pace you would hope for, and that the first game mostly achieved. You'll often die due to the game world not indicating what you can and cannot interact with, which again reduces the game frequently to trial-and-error gameplay, which seems to go against the notion of the player constantly being on the move.
You'll die a lot and you'll probably feel like you didn't do anything wrong, while the controls are immensely fiddly, and the gameplay variety doesn't extend much beyond "climb this tower to collect/activate these three things".
There are a few sequences in the final hour-or-so of the game that almost feel like it hitting its stride, but for the most part the platforming is more annoying than it is intuitive and enjoyable.
