3. Liu Kang

Now that Liu Kang has been reborn as a fire god, we knew the former Shaolin monk would be top-tier in Mortal Kombat's latest outing. With his straightforward kombos and Specials, there's no doubt Liu Kang is the most accessible kombatant in MK1's roster.

Even though his fighting style has a ton of flair, his less showy moves prove to be more effective. Liu Kang's punches and jabs are tremendous at opening kombos, launching, closing distance, stunning opponents, and setting up free hits.

Although Sonya is among the weaker Kameos, her acrobatics punctuate Liu Kang's skills beautifully, turning the two into an exceptionally dangerous pair.

His extended kicks will send anyone sailing upward, letting the Bruce Lee-inspired deity continue to delivering punishment in the air. And if his foe is cornered, Kang can juggle them with ease, reducing their health to nothing.
