Street Fighter II popularised the idea of fighters shouting a catchphrase while performing a special move. It wasn't long before other fighting games followed suit and Mortal Kombat was no different. The most iconic catchphrase in all of Mortal Kombat has to be Scorpion's, "GET OVER HERE!" when he hurls his spear.

Although it's very clear what Scorpion is saying, fans have debated for decades on what the other players are crying out when they perform their moves. When Raiden unleashes his Torpedo Dive, players couldn't decide if he was saying,"Johnny got a car" or "My mother's from LA."

Fans couldn't even agree if the characters were shouting in English or Japanese. According to Ed Boon, most of the characters' catchphrases (including Raiden's) are complete gibberish.

After Ed Boon heard fans were trying to decipher the characters' garbled battle cries, he decided to have a bit of fun while making Mortal Kombat 4.

In this game, characters have hilarious catchphrases including, "That's nacho cheese!", "Hey! See my hay!", I'm gonna throw you over there," and the classic, "Go get a piano."
