Athleisure wear enthusiast Sonya Blade was introduced in the first Mortal Kombat game as a lieutenant in the United States special forces. Tasked with capturing Kano, she lost a partner to the cyborg criminal before finally tracking him down, and following him to the island where the first game's tournament is taking place.

There, Sonya and her team were captured by Shang Tsung, and she was forced to take part in the tournament in order to secure the safe release of her comrades.

However, Shang Tsung had no intention of fulfilling his end of the bargain, and he killed her team following Liu Kang's victory. As she and others faced Goro, Tsung took her prisoner as he escaped to Outworld.

She is one of the few energy bolt users in the games who has expressly been shown to be using technology to accomplish these seemingly magical attacks. However, that doesn't mean she doesn't have some connection to the mystical.

Regularly described as beautiful, Sonya hilariously has a special move that sees her blowing a kiss that stuns opponents by irritating their eyes.

Sonya will be played by Jessica McNamee, who started acting in 2007 on Home & Away as Lisa Duffy. She's recently had small roles in movies such as CHIPS and The Meg.
