Like Liu Kang, Kung Lao is a member of the White Lotus Society and a former Shaolin monk. Living in the shadow of his ancestral namesake, the Great Kung Lao who defeated Shang Tsung, this man was seemingly born to fight in the Mortal Kombat tournament.

However, the series most outspoken pacifist (recognizable for his razor-edged hat which he has a nasty habit of cutting people to pieces with) would much rather live in peace than become champion. Ironic since he's later revealed to be a reincarnation of the Great Kung Lao.

After Liu Kang defeated Goro and Shang Tsung to secure Earthrealm, only a Mortal Kombat tournament in Outworld would allow Shao Kahn another chance to take over the world. Seeking to lure the current champion Liu Kang to Outworld, Shao Kahn ordered Baraka and his Tarkatan brethren to attack the shaolin temple, killing many monks. Liu Kang swore vengeance and both he and Kung Lao entered Outworld to take part in the second tournament.

Stuntman and mostly uncredited bit-part player Max Huang will be playing Kung Lao.
