NBA 2K24: 10 Things We Already Know

8. The 25th Anniversary Edition

NBA 2K titles have come a long way since November 1999.

The inaugural title - labelled simply NBA 2K - was a Sega Dreamcast exclusive and received marginally positive reviews. Featuring a roster of teams from only the current season, commentary from fictitious pundits based on The Price Is Right's Bob Barker and Rod Roddy, and the ability to create your own players, it was a solid start for the series that has since gone through a myriad of changes.

Such rich history will be celebrated with NBA 2K24's 25th-anniversary edition. Dismally, however, NBA hasn't thought the edition through, as the perks of purchasing it - for £149.99! - are limited and largely encompass gratuity when playing through MyCAREER and MyTEAM. Skill boosts, virtual currency, and MyPLAYER apparel are on offer, which is fine if you enjoy that sort of content, but it lacks what a 25th anniversary really needs.

2K largely nails the collector's editions for their WWE series, offering buyers additional characters, commemorative plaques, and WWE Hall of Fame replica rings.

Why not repeat this for NBA, too? They can't offer court-worn sneakers to every player buying this copy, but the ability to enter a prize draw for a championship-winning jersey or a basketball signed by your team of choice are the neat benefits 2K needs to look ahead to for subsequent celebratory editions.
