Nintendo NX Console: 5 Big Things You Need To Know
3. It Probably Won't Be More Powerful Than PS4 Or Xbox One
You'd have to go all the way back to the GameCube if you're looking for a time when Nintendo tried to compete with its rivals on power. Power has never been Nintendo's strong suit, and if the rumours are to be believed then it will continue with the same philosophy with the NX. Reliable Twitter leaker @Doctor_Cupcakes - who also leaked news about the Fallout 4 Pipboy Edition and the remastered Uncharted Trilogy - said he's "absolutely sure" that the NX isn't aiming to top the PS4 in terms of power. While this could still change, it would be consistent with Nintendo's approach to consoles that the NX will compete with the PS4 and Xbox One using its stellar catalogue of first-party games. One hardware improvement that we are likely to see with the NX, however, is in its CPU architecture. It will either use the x86 architecture - same as the PC, PS4 and Xbox One - or the handheld-friendly ARM architecture used by tablets and mobile devices. With Nintendo having confirmed that it's branching out into mobile gaming, and the rumour that it's not aiming to compete with PS4, we could well be looking at the NX as the first major console (or consoles) to take the ARM route.
