Nintendo NX Console: 5 Big Things You Need To Know

4. There Will Be A Home Console And Handheld Version

Now, the first thing to do here is to stay calm, and understand that this isn't going to another awkward Wii U hybrid that neither works as a handheld or as a home console. I repeat, the NX won't be a hybrid device. Instead, Iwata said that the NX will take a page out of the Apple and Android's book. The NX has been described as a 'platform' rather than a console, which means there'll be multiple 'NX' devices - most likely a home console and a handheld one. These separate devices will have some common hardware, and all run on the NX platform, in much the same way that iOS and Android devices can access all the same software and services. Thanks to this, the NX will be much versatile than its predecessors. Nintendo won't need to develop games from the ground up for both consoles, but will be able to port them between the two with minor tweaks. This should ultimately ensure that the NX platform - across all its devices - will have a much bigger games library than the famished Wii U.
