7. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
The Game: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Developed by Retro Studies, it's a the sequel to the Wii title Donkey Kong Country Returns, a semi-reboot of the Donkey Kong Country series that first appeared on the SNES.
The Improvement: As is, Tropical Freeze is an absolutely fantastic game, an infinitely more interesting platformer than any of the entries in Nintendo's flagship New Super Mario Bros. series.
The graphics, the level design and the music are all more textured, nuanced and complex, which makes it an absolute shame that more people haven't played it owing to the failure of the Wii U.
There are very few things that could be added to make the experience any better than it already is, but one glaring omission is Kiddy Kong. Every Kong from the Country series is playable bar Kiddy, and though he's one of the lesser loved Kongs, he's still a huge part of the series' history.
Implementing Kiddy Kong would be the perfect way to round out an already amazing game, paying tribute to the series as a whole. Especially since many believe Retro Studios next game will be a new IP, meaning it could be a very long time before we see the franchise return again.
