Nioh: 6 Essential Tips & Tricks You Need To Know

3. You Better Use That Tutorial

Do not skip the tutorial!

Even if you played one of the three betas released for Nioh, you should revisit the training grounds to brush up on particular combat techniques, as well as to gain an introduction to the monstrous Yokai found throughout the game - demons from Japanese folklore that take on a variety of deranged forms.

It’s through this brief, 20 minute training tutorial that the player can become familiarised with the various weaponry found within the game, such as firearms and other ranged weaponry, as well as proper instructions on how to take advantage of the KI Pulse ability.

It’s also where you’ll learn how to properly activate the ability of your Guardian Spirit. The various Guardian Spirits that the player can equip William with can all be activated after the gauge in the top left of the screen has been filled, this being filled purely through landing attacks in combat. Once activated, the Guardian Spirit can lay waste to your enemies through special attacks, but only for a brief amount of time.

If the player instead chooses not to undertake the brief combat training, then all the game does is provide a few basic instructions through messages found on the floor, inside in the initial Isle of Demons mission. This isn’t enough information and you will die more often than you need to if you’re not properly trained.
