Pokémon: 10 Dumbest Gameplay Features Of All Time
3. Fixed Nicknames For Traded Pokémon
Nicknaming your Pokémon has been a feature of the series since day one, allowing you to add a little personality or flair to your team. Whether you mimic the anime series' Ritchie and name your Pikachu 'Sparky' or come up with something completely original, it's a great way to make the Pokémon your own.
But, when you suddenly get sick of one of them and decide they should be traded out in favour of something stronger, they get stuck with that nickname. Various NPCs in the games explain that Pokémon nicknames are signs of the love that their caring trainer bestowed upon them and that they cannot be changed. This begs the question of why they're getting traded if they're so loved, of course, but we won't get into that.
Getting a nicknamed Pokémon in a trade is so annoying because you could theoretically end up with something so stupid that you don't even want to use it. Imagine finally getting your hands on a Charmander only to discover its former owner decided to call it something like 'Butt-Breath'.
Surely that's not an essential indicator of the former trainer's love for the poor thing?
