HMs were an integral part of the Pokémon mechanic but Sun and Moon’s transition to Ride Pokémon, where you just summon certain creatures to navigate various challenges landscape is waaaaay better. You’re not having to carry around a superfluous 6th Pokémon as a HM Slave, which always felt really stupid, and you’re not tied down to undeletable moves.

Instead you get to cruise around on a Charizard and smash boulders with a Tauros. Let HMs die, they’re one throwback to the original games and we don’t ever need to see again.
