Pokémon Sword & Shield: 10 New Styles That MUST Be In Gen 8
6. Fire/Ice Type
It’s easy to see why these polar opposites haven’t featured in a dual typing yet. Dual typings to cancel out weaknesses have been a thing before (Sableye being Ghost and Dark, for example), but no two types are diametrically opposes foes in the way of Fire and Ice.
Right now though, the chips might all be falling into place for this one to make its debut. The final series of Game Of Thrones releases this year, a few months before Sword and Shield, and is very much a part of our cultural zeitgeist. Both Pokémon and Game Of Thrones are set in regions designed off the back of Britain too, so there’s somewhat of a link.
Would it be too fan service-y? Perhaps. And there’s certainly no chance of it being a Viserion-like Ice version of Charizard, but there’s always a possibility. Vulpix and Ninetales were flipped from Fire to Ice in Alola, so the seed of the idea is there, at least.
The rich reds with the cool blues of the two typings would be perfect too, and the ferocity of many Fire types (Charizard, Houndoom, Magmortar) could be thawed by the sleeker look of Ice types like Lapras, Dewgong and Delibird.
