Pokémon Sword & Shield: 10 New Styles That MUST Be In Gen 8
5. Mega Bellossom
It might seem a little out of left field, but Bellossom is actually one of the ‘mons most deserving of a Mega evolution. Bellossom was introduced in Gen II, as a pure Grass alternate evolution for Gloom, allowing it to get a stat boost without the Poison typing of Gen I’s Vileplume.
At the time, ditching Poison was a significant advantage; Poison was weak to Psychic, arguably the most powerful typing around. Outclassed by Dragon but far more readily available, you simply could not become Pokémon champion without some Psychic coverage in your team.
Now though, Psychic has been nerfed and despite Bellossom having a great design, it’s been left by the wayside. Vileplume has more nostalgia in its favour and is easier to evolve, while Bellossom gets a little lost in the ‘cutesy Grass type’ shuffle with the likes of Maractus and Carnivine.
Megas themselves were relegated to post game content in Sun and Moon, with no new ones introduced, but they remain fan favourites. Their ability to inject new life into a middle of the road Pokémon makes them vital to the meta game too; hopefully Sword and Shield gives them focus again.
