6. The Last Of Us
The newest Naughty Dog property to get big attention, The Last of Us was the best game of 2013. It took a lot of the things that the Uncharted series does so well and adapted them to new environments and new circumstances in expert fashion. Most importantly, the game built on Uncharted's ability to develop strong characters and meaningful relationships, putting the player in control of apocalypse survivors Joel and Ellie as they trekked across a barren America. It's not a guarantee that The Last of Us is, or will be, a franchise yet, but it's hard to imagine it standing alone. The game was simply too good, and there's more story there to tell. Seeing it told on PS4 is about the only thing that could possibly improve on it.
Best Likely Use of Next-Gen Technology: Again, the ability to build vast, engaging environments will help any third-person property that Naughty Dog puts out there. The barren, destroyed world of The Last of Us was incredible to behold on the PS3, seeing it with added vastness and more detail would only improve upon it.
