PS5: 10 CONFIRMED Console Details You Need To Know

5. Backwards Compatibility With PS4 At LEAST

Confirming what has been rumoured for a while now, the Wired article revealed that the PS5 will indeed offer backwards compatibility with the PS4. This is in part because it's built on the same/similar architecture and it won't be much of an issue to get the games working on the new console.

What's conspicuously absent, though, is whether or not the next system will offer backwards compatibility across all of Sony's platforms. PS4 titles are locked in, but the rumours and patents revealed in the past few months all pointed towards the PS5 being something of a legacy system, with Sony trying to get all of their back catalogue working on the machine.

That's not been ruled out entirely though, and the company might have more to announce when it unveils its machine properly.
