PS5: 10 Iconic PlayStation Franchises Sony Needs To Revive
4. Ape Escape
Ape Escape was a pivotal series for Sony... because it was the first game to use the PlayStation's Dual Analog controller.
Please don't let me be the only one that found that funny.
As a series, Ape Escape brought more than just innovation to the PlayStation(s). It brought a fun and frantic bunch of platformers that focused on catching absconding apes with a variety of traps.
For the most part, they were great fun. But innovation is both blessing and curse, as 2010 saw a PlayStation Move party game come forth. An on-rails shooter, it lost a lot of charm and was generally regarded as a bit naff... even by on-rail shooter standards.
Yet there is scope to bring back the franchise, if not as a party game, then a platformer with some multiplayer elements to it. As mentioned earlier, Spyro and Crash have benefited from facelifts, why not Spike and his slippery simians too?
Combine old Ape Escape with the Academy spin-off: a single player game, with optional mini-games. Hey, it works for plumbers, why not animal capture activists too?
