Speaking of diehard fans, there's always been a contingent of fighting game fanatics that swear Soulcalibur deserves Tekken's spotlight. Well, with the sixth main instalment finally coming after six years, it's releasing to a clean 2018 slate as far as the genre goes.

Brilliantly, SC VI sees the cameo of The Witcher 3's Geralt on the roster, bringing with him all the Sign spells and School of the Wolf sword pirouettes many of us used for hundreds of hours across his main games.

Overall though, Soulcalibur has always excelled in its tactical approach to combat. There's almost a rock, paper, scissors mentality to having face buttons dedicated to kicking, weapons, basic attacks etc., and then you have ring-out victories that come out of nowhere when you least expect it.

The sheer pace of Soulcalibur is something to behold, and alongside Mortal Kombat X, Tekken 7 and Injustice 2, it'll be great to have the franchise on current hardware.
