Ranking All Of Metal Gear Solid's Boss Battles From Worst To Best

38. Vamp - Oil Fence (MGS 2)

After Raiden spends forever helping guide Emma Emmerich across one of the Big Shell's struts, Vamp re-appears and takes Emma hostage. There's not much to this boss beyond using some Pentazemin to steady your aim and unloading your sniper rifle at Vamp's head, though of course, you need to be careful to avoid hitting Emma, who will also receive periodical damage from Vamp. The Emma factor does admittedly add some tension and gravitas to the fight, but it's just a shame it had to be with such an annoying character's life hanging in the balance (as escorting Emma is easily the worst part of the game). Whether you love or hate her, though, once you've landed enough head shots on Vamp, he'll disappear and Emma will succumb to her wounds. Also, there's the reveal of Otacon's semi-incestuous relationship with his stepmother that pretty much every MGS fan could've done without.
