Ranking Every Mass Effect Squadmate Ever
6. EDI
Potentially controversial to have her so high, but a lot of players seemed to have forgotten the huge impact her reveal had. Assuming you’d avoided the squadmate leaks, having EDI join your squad in Mass Effect 3 was a jaw dropping moment.
Beginning life in ME2 as the ship’s AI, EDI had no face apart from a sphere of light. Her personality was a robotic deadpan, constantly trying to get to grips with an evolved sense of humour, but she never had a Cortana level of involvement. That all changed when she installed herself into an android body in ME3, almost burning down the Normandy in the process.
She was actually taken on more missions on average than Tali in the third game - 13.0% to 7.8% - though there are a number of factors involved there. Plus, eagle eyed readers will know the Quarian’s ranking is yet to be revealed.
The races in the Mass Effect race were hugely well drawn, with a lot of players disappointed that more minor species like Hanar and Elcor never got to be squadmates. Utilising EDI in battle was a truly inventive gameplay choice, and her touching relationship with Joker only compounds her importance.
