Red Dead Online: 7 Reasons You Should Give It Another Chance

4. A More Survival-Based Experience

Sadly, it’s undeniable that the economy in RDO is still a complete mess. Jobs and free-roam activities pay literal pennies and it’s a stark contrast to the offline campaign. Right now Rockstar still have a micro-transaction heavy system, aimed at having players hand over real-world cash for those precious Gold Bars. Given the success of Shark Cards in GTA Online, this was an unfortunate inevitability, but hopefully one that Rockstar will tweak in order to provide an enjoyable experience for those who want to earn their rewards in-game.

This does, however, create a unique situation for the online world. As the game currently stands, its harsher economy makes for a more survival-focused experience. Having to hunt for food, rob NPCs, scrape together money and sell everything you can afford to lose creates a tough environment reminiscent of harder times in the Old West. Working your character’s way up from nothing can, in return, be more rewarding as a result.

It would be a stretch to say that this survival environment is worth a terrible economy; especially when a survival mode could be introduced for those who want it instead. However, the economy’s issues are not enough to ruin RDO’s gameplay entirely.
