Death is an inevitable part of a game set in the Old West. In fact, the game opens with the group traversing up the mountains, with gang members Jenny Kirk and Davey Callander succumbing to the wounds they suffered in the botched Blackwater robbery. As the events of the game unfold, more and more members of the Van der Linde Gang meet their end before the gang's dissolution following Arthur's own death.

As Arthur's grave is in an open area of the map, John can visit his fallen friend's resting place anytime he desires, but then again, he can do that with (nearly) every other gang member that has died.

Most major gang members get their own dedicated grave, with each affected by story or character. For instance Davey is buried at the Colter graveyard where the gang were stationed when he died, whereas Arthur was buried on a hill to watch over the evening sunset as Charles (who buried him) said that that would've been what he wanted.

Though all available graves are visit-able by John (obvs), Arthur can still visit graves as he goes along, providing of course the ground actually has someone in it.
