Red Dead Redemption: Every Villain Ranked From Worst To Best
8. Javier Escuella
Earlier on I mentioned the tragedy of Bill Williamson, and the same thing can be repeated for Javier Escuella. More so perhaps? With the context of RDR2 backing up relationships between former members of Dutch's gang, who would have thought the bond between Javier Escuella and John Marston could run so deep?
Like Bill, Javier is alongside Arthur (and the player) through a number of thick and thin shootouts but in the final moments of Chapter 6, Javier proves his allegiance to Dutch and draws his pistol on John and Arthur. If only Javier could see through Micah's lies, he might have not been hunted down by John twelve years later.
The Mexican revolution in RDR is the game's main second act; and while John does head south of the border initially in pursuit of Bill Williamson, his journey puts him on the path for Javier as well.
Javier's work for Colonel Allende as a ruthless hitman does detail a fall from grace for the former outlaw. The fact that he is so despised by the rebels fighting against Col. Allende proves he is a hateful force to be reckoned with. When John confronts Javier, there does appear to be a mutual respect between the two.
That is until Javier distracts John with a few crates and flees the El Presidio capital, and pre-conceived respect we might have had for Javier goes out the window.
