Resident Evil Nemesis EXPLAINED - Origins & Meaning
The Raccoon City Incident
A catastrophe caused by jealousy and corporate dealings, William Birkin and Umbrella are both equally responsible for the loss of an entire city.
Birkin's tenure at Umbrella was never as simple as it should’ve been, and before things fully came to a head that resulted in the Raccoon City Incident, the employment of Alexia Ashford seriously hurt his ego as he was no longer a child prodigy.
Birkin would move to the NEST located directly under Raccoon City to become chief researcher over the Goliath Virus.
He became even more jealous and wanted to keep the G-Virus to himself to sell to the highest bidder. This eventually led to the Umbrella higher-ups sending in HUNK and his team to reclaim a sample of the T and G Virus from the NEST, but in a turn of events, he mutated into a "G"-level beast, and the T-Virus was set loose on Raccoon City.
This terrible outbreak which consumed the entire city and everyone in it turned out to be the perfect testing ground for Umbrella and their Tyrant Project. Umbrella seized the opportunity at hand and set loose a number of Tyrants for test data, also stopping anyone escaping the living hell they had created.
This is where the stories of Leon, Claire, Ashley Birkin and Ada Wong begin, but for Jill Valentine, the nightmare was only continuing.
Mere months after she escaped the Spencer Mansion, an entire city of 100,000+ people were now consumed by the T-Virus. During her escape, she makes it to the RCPD, only to be informed by Brad Vickers that "he is coming for us".
This 'he' would indeed turn out to be the most advanced Tyrant Umbrella had created to date, Nemesis...
