Rocksteady's Superman Wishlist: 10 Things We Want To See
5. A Sense Of Vulnerability
When it comes to comic book continuity, it's fair to say that DC's is a tad confusing. There are pre and post-Crisis incarnations of the universe, and when you factor in events like Final Crisis, Flashpoint, the New 52 and DC Rebirth, discerning what is and what isn't actual canon can prove both laborious and exceedingly difficult.
Nowhere is that confusion more notable than with Superman, who has undergone about as many shifts, changes and incarnations as a tacky eighties slasher villain. Some incarnations have played down his power levels, whereas others have gone all in on the character's solar-inspired gifts, going so far as to imbue him with new powers every other day of the week.
And while there's a certain enjoyment to be had in seeing the Man of Steel take on an omnipotence only a gauntlet-wearing titan could match, it does get boring after a while. Yes, the DC Universe is a land filled with gods and monsters, but with Superman, it helps to make sure he doesn't get a little too big for his boots.
Along those lines (and again, following on from those aforementioned 4Chan leaks), having the character stray close to his DCAU incarnation would be a smart move. Yes, he was powerful, but villains still posed a threat and, at the end of the day, everyone who watched those shows felt that there could be a confrontation where the Man of Steel didn't walk away.
There's a way of making the character feel powerful though, and if any scene from Justice League proved how best to do that, it would be the one above.
