Rocksteady's Superman: 8 Things We Need To See
6. Get Flight Right
Many computer games simply can't come up with good flight mechanics. Superman games in particular have a bad track record with this aspect of the character, with gamers still complaining about Superman 64 nearly 20 years later. If the flight mechanic is intuitive and fun to use it would be a big selling point of the game, especially if the map was interesting to explore.
The Batmobile mechanics in Arkham Knight, whilst tediously over-used, worked nicely and took little time to learn. Flight adds a third dimension to typical movement/vehicle mechanics, with the easiest solution being either to use the right stick for upward movement or by keeping Superman at a certain height so that the 3rd dimension isn't required.
Moving through the map must be seamless and smooth because players do it all the time in open world games. Movement is often a major selling point for superhero titles, with the gliding in Arkham City, the Batmobile in Arkham Knight and the swinging in Spider-Man 2 (and in Insomniac's new Spider-Man game) being huge sources of appeal for these games.
