Rocksteady's Superman: 8 Things We Need To See
4. Feature An Interesting Villain
Superman has a solid rogues' gallery, and the main antagonist must be interesting enough to make players care about the story. Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy used Mark Hamill's Joker to create interest, a trick that worked brilliantly for the first two games and became stale in Arkham Knight. The trilogy's storyline drove the plot forward effectively, and the main threat was suitably menacing in every title.
Every Arkham game featured a myriad of villains, something that we would hopefully see carry on into Rocksteady's Superman game. Secondary villains can be used in side missions which pad out the story and help players hone their abilities. Furthermore, the main antagonist must have access to some kind of army powerful enough to challenge Superman.
Lex Luthor is Superman's most famous arch nemesis, but his lack of an army might relegate him to a compelling side mission or future threat (I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a twist that revealed Lex Luthor was behind the invasion or main threat in the game). It could well be that Rocksteady want Lex Luthor to be like Hamill's Joker was in the Arkham games: a common thread that was an integral part of every main plot point.
