Rocksteady's Superman: 8 Things We Need To See
3. Use A Wide Array Of Powers
Superman is famous for having so many different powers. Whilst some critics see this as boring, leaving the Man of Steel overpowered, for many fans this is one of Superman's greatest selling points. To see this absent from the game would deter a large portion of its core audience.
This variety should be utilised creatively by Rocksteady to diversify gameplay. Recent adaptations of Superman frequently limit his range of powers as a short-cut to vulnerability and a 'reinvention' of the character. Fans want to see as many different powers as possible being incorporated into the game, even if some of them are reserved for glorified mini-games equivalent to the Riddler trophies of the Arkham series.
The Arkham fight mechanics incorporated Batman gadgets into fights. A similar technique could be used with Superman's abilities, using heat vision to attack enemies further away, super breath to knock enemies into each other, and flight for takedowns.
Powers could also be used to environmental interactions such as clearing the way for hostages or unlocking collectables (something Rocksteady are a big fan of, with gamers spending hours wasting away trying to find all 245 Riddler trophies in Arkham Knight).
