Rocksteady's Superman: 8 Things We Need To See
2. A Gripping Story
It can be difficult finding a story that makes Superman feel vulnerable or challenged. Rocksteady did a stellar job designing a compelling plot in the Arkham series, so hopefully this success can continue in their Superman game. Something lacking from the Arkham trilogy was a deep exploration of the duality between the hero and his alter ego, something even more prominent in Superman where there is a large contrast between the powerful Man of Steel and the meek Clark Kent.
Seeing Superman balance his heroism with his normal life as Clark Kent would be refreshing and break up the gameplay nicely. As the story progresses, Clark's relationship with Louis could develop, perhaps giving players the decision as to whether to reveal their secret identity and continue building the relationship, or to keep distant and maintain secrecy.
Too many games in the genre have boring stories that act mostly as a scaffold to allow for action and gameplay sequences to the extent that some games almost dispatch with a plot altogether, such as Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.
Rocksteady are clearly the studio for the job, and their story-telling is impressive, especially if they sign on writer Paul Dini (who worked on Superman: The Animated Series and the Arkham games).
