Sea Of Thieves Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
1. It's Technically Underwhelming
Though the moment-to-moment visuals mostly hit the mark, there are some disappointing technical issues which further make the game feel oddly thrown-together and not truly ready for release.
First off, loading times on the O.G. Xbox One can take up to 90 seconds to get a match started, and there are also glitches and persistent clipping issues (at least on the Xbox One version), where the player and items (such as weapons and maps) can pass through objects in the environment if you get too close.
Basically, it feels like Rare made a pretty shell of a game but cut corners in terms of the little details and streamlining the experience. There have also been rampant server issues on day one which have been affecting player inventory and matchmaking, but honestly, it seems pretty harsh to complain too much about that, irritating though it is.
So, Sea of Thieves isn't a great game, but it's certainly not all bad. Here's what Rare actually got right...
