Silent Hill: 10 Reasons A Hideo Kojima Reboot Would Be Awesome

10. He Knows How To Create Great Moments

One thing that a horror game needs is memorable moments. It needs to have moments that stick with you for months, even years after you played it for the first time. You need to be able to have those moments that gamers remember. Everyone remembers the first time they tangled with a zombie in Resident Evil, after it had eaten poor Kenneth. Or they distinctly remember the pure intensity Heavy Rain created by forcing you to chop your own finger off. They were defining moments that every gamer remembers, and Kojima knows how to do that. Many a fan will tell you their own story of defeating Vulcan Raven in Metal Gear Solid 1, and how close they came to being defeated. Or how frightened they were when they found the mutilated body of Gibson in Snatcher. He creates moments, whether they are built from fear or not, that any gamer will remember. Metal Gear Solid alone is a greatest hits collection of Kojima moments. He knows just when to go far enough, and when to pull back and allow you to soak in what information he has just given you. And often, horror is built on these elements. When gamers talk about their favorite horror games, it invariably comes back to what moment scared them the most. Kojima can make those moments, and as we'll see later, can scare the pants off of you if he really wants to.
