Skyrim: 5 Ideas For Future Expansions

5. Rise of the Falmer

Anyone familiar with Skyrim€™s caves and dungeons will have had numerous encounters with the Falmer; blind creatures that once lived above the surface, but have devolved into bitter animals after centuries of subterranean existence. Previously known as Snow Elves, the Falmer live deep beneath the earth, plotting their return to the surface. During the course of the Dawnguard expansion player encounter a surviving Snow Elf, who tells of how many of his kind retreated underground to avoid being wiped out by the Nords, but were betrayed by the Dwemer, who forced them to eat toxins that caused blindness. However, it is also mentioned that the Falmer are becoming more intelligent and organised, and may one day regain their former splendour, if they don€™t rise up and conquer the surface for themselves again. Either one of these possibilities could form the basis for new DLC. A full-scale Falmer invasion could result in some spectacular scenes, allowing players to delve even deeper beneath Skyrim€™s towns. Alternatively, a visit to some Dwemer ruins could uncover a cure for the Falmer€™s blindness, with the rest of the DLC being devoted to gathering the necessary ingredients and materials. Having introduced the Snow Elves in the Dawnguard expansion, and strongly hinted at both a cure and an invasion by the Falmer, new content that focusses on them seems a likely choice when Bethesda comes to choose the subject of its next add-on.
