Skyrim: 5 Ideas For Future Expansions

4. Solstheim

A snowy, pine-covered island to the north of Skyrim, Solstheim was the setting for the Bloodmoon expansion to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and featured a story that focussed on the daedric prince Hircine. Whilst a remake of this adventure would be enjoyable, it would also be slightly lazy on Bethesda€™s part. However, leaving Skyrim€™s northern shore offers other possibilities. It€™s commonly mentioned that the first men came to Tamriel from the northern continent of Atmora, with famous figures such as Ysgramor and Tiber Septim being amongst the migrants. A return to Solstheim could be the first step in a journey even further north, in an attempt to discover the origins of the Nord people. The story could begin with a letter from a wealthy, but slightly deranged merchant who is planning an expedition and wishes to recruit the Dragonborn. Alternatively, rising temperatures could cause the Atmoran ice to melt, exposing ancient ruins along the snowy shore. Whilst it might seem strange to leave Tamriel whilst so much of the continent remains unvisited, a trip to Atmora would result in some stunning visuals, a would allow for the introduction of numerous ice and snow themed enemies. Finally, learning more about the origins of the Nords could result in some spectacular narrative moments, which would make a journey to Solstheim and beyond well worth the effort.
