Spider-Man PS4: 5 Things It Did Better Than The Arkham Series (And 5 Things It Did Worse)

4. Time Of Day

A key aspect of Spider-Man PS4, which is executed much better than the Arkham Series, is the ability to change the time of day.

Each entry in the Arkham Series takes place on one separate night respectively. This brings an immersive quality to the story and gameplay, while also providing a narrative motivation for completing the events of the game in one night. Something that Arkham fans have been asking for for a long time is to be able to explore Gotham in the day-time.

This has been fulfilled once in a tiny portion of gameplay near the start of Arkham Knight and only lasted as long as Jim Gordon’s walk inside from a helicopter. There was also another occurrence of daytime gameplay in the same game during a Nightwing challenge map. This is all obviously because Batman operates mostly at night so it would make less sense to play these games during the day.

On the flip side, Spider-Man allows you to change the time of day whenever you like. This can be done at research stations located across the map. You can choose between Day - which provides bright sunshine and quintessential Spider-Man imagery. Sunset - creating a moodier tone with a picturesque backdrop. Finally Night - a noir cityscape in the city that never sleeps.

Being able to change the time of day allows you to be Spider-Man 24 hours a day, effectively bringing you closer as a player to the character on screen.
