Spider-Man PS4: 8 Past Mistakes It Must Avoid

5. Retreading What's Already Been Done Before

As much as it would be nice to see a raft of cameos in Insomniac's upcoming game, it should refrain from treading paths players have already traversed in games gone by. Web of Shadows, for instance, included both Wolverine and Luke Cage in supporting roles, and while they'd make for fine inclusions in the latest Spidey game, no one wants to get a sense of déjàvu.

That's why, although the odd throwback will undoubtedly be appreciated, Insomniac should endeavour to make this Spidey game unlike any of the others. Of course there'll be similarities (any open world title will inevitably draw comparisons to Spider-Man 2), but as long as it doesn't feel too familiar, that's the most important thing.

There've been so many games based on the web-head over the years, and with most having brought their own gimmick to the table (Web of Shadows and its morality system, Shattered Dimensions with its Spider-Men, and Edge of Time with its time-travelling), there could be a temptation to take one of these older features and attempt to give it a facelift.

Given Insomniac's approach, however, fans shouldn't have to worry - it's clear this title is making innovation a primary concern.
