Star Wars: Squadrons - 10 Reasons To Be Excited
5. We've Not Had A Starfighter Game In Well Over A Decade
Looking back on the film that started it all, Star Wars: Episode IV has a unique final act. The action is solely based around starfighter battles. While other films implemented this in their finales, the only film to do this was the original. Looking at the gaming landscape, it seems Star Wars games have gone the same way.
Most Battlefront games have featured elements of starfighter gameplay, however they haven't been truly supported by the developers, with Starfighter Assualt remaining one of the least popular modes on Battlefront 2. The last true starfighter game Star Wars fans got was Rogue Squadron III, which was released in 2003.
Why there hasn't been more of a push towards starfighter games is a mystery. The gameplay offers a very unique take on the Star Wars landscape, leaning away from the Jedi and Sith and instead focusing on the soldiers in the galactic wars. This is something that has been sorely missed in the Star Wars universe.
