Hailing from the same source outing Minecraft's Steve as a potential Smash character is Ryu Hayabusa, Team Ninja's oft-forgotten mascot.

The highly romanticized depiction of the stealthy assassin that he is, Ryu's limb-lopping skills with a katana would need to be toned down for an appearance in Nintendo's brawler, but with the blood and guts removed? Ryu could easily make the transition to Smash. Sword and weapon-wielding fighters are already well-represented in the series, though with the majority of them coming from Fire Emblem, Ryu's Eastern-inspired ninja tools and magic could shape him into a hybrid, of sorts, between the likes of Marth and Zelda's Sheik.

According to the source, Ryu's appearance may have something to do with the series' upcoming 30th anniversary and could be released to coincide with a new game featuring the hero planned for this year. Whether or not the unconfirmed project turns out to be a remaster or brand new adventure isn't known, but Ryu cropping up in Smash would be a terrific profile booster.
