4. The Dwemer Civilisation

Blackreach skyrim
Bethesda

As part of the main quest in Skyrim, the Dragonborn descends into an ancient Dwemer ruin and finds the region of Blackreach, part of a Dwemer settlement that is now abandoned and mostly forgotten. The scenery in Blackreach is absolutely stunning and the cityscape is awe-inspiring - so taking that as a template and expanding it out into a full, finished world seems like a pretty cool idea.

Because of the timeline of the lore, a game set in a Dwemer-civilised region would have to take place chronologically before previous games, since they have gone extinct by the time of Skyrim€™s events €“ but that€™s not necessarily a bad thing. It would give Bethesda a chance to flesh out some more of the history of Tamriel, and show us what a Dwemer civilisation really looked like at the height of their strength. Or, they could even show us the story of how they died out in the first place as part of the main hook.

Obviously, this would also be open to having the Dwemer as a playable race, and any innovation on that front is always welcome (provided the balance is still there). Possibly a long shot, but definitely worth considering.
