The Game Awards 2018: 7 Ups & 6 Downs

4. Return Of The Obra Dinn Wins Best Art Direction

Another hugely pleasant surprise was the triumph of indie puzzler Return of the Obra Dinn in the Best Art Direction category, where it not only broke RDR2's early awards streak, but impressively defeated four AAA games for the win - Assassin's Creed Odyssey, God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Octopath Traveler.

Considering that The Game Awards is still struggling to escape the feeling it's a glorified three-hour commercial for the AAA gaming industry, it's certainly satisfying to see smaller titles getting their moment in the spotlight, while triumphing over games with much larger budgets no less.

And yeah, if you've not played Return of the Obra Dinn yet, definitely give it a whirl.
