The Game Awards 2018 Nominations: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
2. A Way Out Nominated For Best Direction

Co-op action-adventure game A Way Out received a single nomination in the Best Game Direction category, and while it's a decent enough game, was it really well-crafted enough to sit alongside the likes of God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 in particular?
Yes, the co-op, split-screen cinematic gameplay is a neat gimmick, but the game's also jam-packed with jank and repetition, and the narrative too often becomes a corny mess of cliches rather than the poignant thriller-drama director Josef Fares was aiming for.
Its ambition should absolutely be lauded, especially on a clearly modest budget, but compared to Fares' previous hit Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, A Way Out felt decidedly sloppier and less-assured.
