The Last Of Us 2: 10 Believable Plot Theories You Need To Know
6. The Seraphites' Secret Leader, And Their Knowledge Of Ellie's Immunity
With the Seraphites' unified style – men are bald and clean
shaven, with women tying their hair back identically – and the mandatory scar
across their cheek, it becomes evident that the Seraphites are a hierarchical collective.
In the impressively grim gameplay reveal, Ellie crawls her way through the damp ferns as the whistling cult members scour the area. In a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it moment, some graffiti spanning a crumbling wall shows a woman accompanied by the caption “May She Guide You” – seemingly hinting at the messianic leader.
If Ellie’s immunity is to play a part in the story, it will likely come in the form of the Seraphites and their leader. With their modus operandi being the stringing-up and disembowelling of those supposedly “nested with sin”, the cult is steeped in religious connotations.
Naming themselves after angelic figures, calling traitors’ “apostates” and the infected “demons”, Ellie could find herself in the crosshairs of the cheek-scarred fanatics, as someone impervious to the infectious effects of these “demons”.
With Ellie also referenced as “The Wolf” in the unedited gameplay by a soon-to-be-dead cultist, it is clear that she becomes known to the group – much like how both her and Joel built a reputation amongst David’s band of cannibals.
