The Last Of Us 2: 10 Things Fans DON'T Want To See
2. Violence Porn
What is the difference between misery porn and violence porn? Simple. Misery porn is Final Fantasy: Advent Children, violence porn is the Tomb Raider reboot games.
It's the physical torture of a character with the aim of artificially increasing sympathy in the audience. The point where it becomes torture porn instead of just putting your characters through strife is when the writers forget to populate the story such violence is taking place in with actual characters. If you could look at the actual script for Tomb Raider 2011's story, you'd likely find that Lara Croft is less a character and more a walking talking punching bag meant to get the crap kicked out of her. So when you read it in so cold and detached a form as a story script, you see the cracks begin to form.
The Last Of Us definitely had its moments of getting too indulgent with its violence, to the point where it was unnecessary at points. We KNOW the world is harsh and cruel and unfair, the game has shown and established that much, so anymore than that would be excessive.
Violence porn isn't an exact science. Hell, we call it violence *porn* because like pornography, you know it when you see it. And it's safe to say fans generally would not like to see it in The Last Of Us 2.
