The Last Of Us: 5 Scenes That Must Be In The Movie

4. Ellie Kills David

The scene in which Ellie murders David after he comes far too close to strangling her is easily Ellie’s defining moment in ‘The Last of Us’. While she had displayed her skills with a firearm before this point, and was more than capable of killing people who had far worse intentions for her, this was the moment when she really displayed her will to survive.

‘The Last of Us’ is not just a tale of Joel and his long, difficult journey of coming to terms with the death of his daughter, it’s also about Ellie’s growth as a survivor, from the moment she steps outside the walls of the quarantine zone to the first time she handles a rifle.

If you played the ‘Left Behind’ DLC, you’ll know that Ellie didn’t have it easy before her first encounter with Joel, so it really puts this scene in perspective knowing that Ellie at one point had elected to wait out her imminent death with her best friend Riley, after both having been bitten in a shopping mall. After miraculously surviving that encounter, Ellie was determined that she wasn’t going to let David be the deciding factor in her death, and so she lashed out in a brutal way, violently killing him with his own machete.

It would be cool to see some moments from ‘Left Behind’ in the film, perhaps in a flashback, but even if not, this scene is a must-have. It’s also worth noting that Joel’s only encounter with David is after Ellie kills him, so it only goes to show how David was an antagonist exclusive to her. That is why this defining moment must be implemented into the film.
