You might not have even noticed considering all the mortal danger packed into the trailer, but Ellie is actually shown wearing a gas mask while out scavenging with Dina. The significance of this, obviously, is that Ellie is immune to the cordyceps virus, and doesn't actually need the mask while out in the wild. If anything, it's probably a hindrance.

Though there is some speculation online about the virus itself mutating, the safest implication of this detail is simply that Ellie is trying to hide her immunity around other people - even the people she loves. Revealing this to anyone could mark her out as a target, and blending in is her best chance at surviving.

There is a darker implication though. The consequences of Joel taking out the Fireflies has to be addressed at some point in this sequel, and this deception could be part of that. Perhaps details of the massacre have spread to different communities - no specifics, but the idea that an immune girl ended up causing so much chaos - and therefore Ellie may be blending in to avoid suspicion and repercussions of what happened at the end of the first game.

Either way, there has to be a reason for her hiding her immunity.
