The Outer Worlds: 10 Ways It'll Blow Fallout Out The Water
1. No Microtransactions
Yes, you read that correctly. Obsidian have confirmed there will be NO MICROTRANSACTIONS in Outer Worlds!
When Project Leads Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky were asked in an interview if there would be microtransactions in their game, they reportedly answered very quickly with a unified, “Hell no!”
We've seen a lot from studios recently where they’ve left microtransactions and lootboxes out of their games until the reviews are out, only to patch them in later. However, it would be difficult for Obsidian to backtrack on such a resounding and public denial, so it’s hopeful that we can take them on their word with this.
Up until Fallout 76, Bethesda hadn’t included microtransactions in the franchise, but this all changed when Fallout went online. Hopes could be had that the likes of premium currencies and pay-to-win mechanics will be avoided in a future single-player entry; but given that Bethesda are essentially charging for cheat codes in Rage 2, the future doesn’t look bright for the next true instalment to the Fallout series.
Obsidian really do have a good chance to knock Fallout down the charts and become a force to be reckoned with. Here’s hoping they don’t mess it up and make us look foolish.
