The Outer Worlds: 10 Ways It'll Blow Fallout Out The Water
2. The Lack Of A Single-Player Fallout Game To Compete With
The release date for Outer Worlds couldn’t come at a better time. Since its inception, the game was always expected to have to compete pretty heavily with Fallout. However, with Fallout 76 being a critically panned online service, the latest single-player game in the Bethesda series is Fallout 4, which was released in 2015.
Bethesda doesn’t seem to have a new Fallout on the horizon, with its next RPG releases set to be Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI. Given that neither of these games have announced launch dates yet, as well as Todd Howard hinting both would likely be on next-gen consoles, Obsidian have little in the way of competition when it comes to their genre.
If Outer Worlds can launch successfully and capture the Fallout fanbase during this quiet period, they could potentially find themselves in a unique situation where they come in and dominate the market immediately, leaving Bethesda to play catch up when their next big RPGs hit shelves. It’s unlikely anyone at this small studio would expect to have such a boost on the competition with the first entry to a new franchise, but if they play their cards right, this could become a reality.
